Something Beautiful - “An elf maiden finds a toad and looks upon it, not as something ugly, but as a forest jewel. To her it is beautiful.  I often see beauty in things most people find disgusting (crows, snakes, insects, etc.). They have a place in our world, God made them, and the beauty is there for those who have eyes to see it.  Besides, I love frogs and toads, and wanted to do a painting with one in it.”

Luna Fairy - “A Luna Fairy stands in the moon light, pondering fairy thoughts. The first time I ever saw a Luna moth I was in awe by its beauty and size. I thought Luna wings would look perfect on the back of a fairy. Maybe after seeing this painting, others will also see the beauty of a real Luna moth.”

Elf harbor small

Elf Harbor - “Elven ships have come home from a long voyage, and upon seeing the guiding light of their lighthouse, they enter their haven and rest.  This piece was definitely inspired by Tolkien, though it is not fan art or an illustration.  It is more of an inspired feeling, like the one I feel when I go home to the Berkshires for vacation.”

Lady Blanchfleur - “The Grail Maiden stands before you, O seeker of the Grail, and holds before you the cup of salvation, the Holy Grail. I painted this for an online exhibition called ‘Arthurian Legends’. I wanted this piece to have a religious feeling.  Note the wild roses in her hair. All fancy rose species (e.g. the famous hybrid tea roses, the ones you get for Valentine’s Day) are grafted into the roots of wild roses.  The Bible speaks of Christians as being grafted into Christ. As long as we remain rooted in him, we will grow and thrive, just as a hybrid tea won’t grow well on its own roots, but must be grafted into the roots of the wild rose.”

Tulip Fairy small

Tulip Fairy - “A fairy child playfully peeks out of a tulip.  I wanted to portray childhood innocence and joy. It’s a joy that adults often forget, that free kind of joy unrestrained by the hardships of life. I remember it well, and my memories give me joy. People often comment on how this fairy looks like me. Well, I used my first grade class picture as a model.”

Violet Fairy - “A shy fairy child looks out from a violet plant.  If you are kind and gentle to her, she might stay and befriend you, but if you are harsh and criticle, she will hide, just as all children’s heart shut down to berating and criticism, but all children’s hearts open up to love.  I’m always amazed at how open children’s hearts are, and how easy it is for them to love.  That love must be continuously nurtured for it to last into adulthood.”

Saturn Crossing small

Saturn Crossing - “I love astronomy, and I painted this around the time the Cassini mission launched a probe into Saturn’s moon Titan.  Titan’s orange cloud cover has kept it a mystery to astronomers until now. Notice Titan as the small peachy moon crescent on the lower part of the Saturn crescent. The focal point is supposed to be the comet, but for some reason I like to point out the presence of Titan.”
